The Issues: Youth & Education
Back to All Issues
At CUNTS-PAC, we believe that every young person deserves a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment to learn and grow. Unfortunately, many LGBTQIA+ youth face significant challenges in their educational journey, including bullying, harassment, and lack of representation. We are committed to advocating for the rights and needs of LGBTQIA+ youth, ensuring that they have access to the resources and support they need to succeed.
The Challenges Faced by LGBTQIA+ Youth
LGBTQIA+ youth face numerous challenges in their educational journey, including:
- Bullying and harassment: Many LGBTQIA+ youth experience bullying and harassment in school, which can lead to poor academic performance, low self-esteem, and even suicidal thoughts.
- Lack of representation: LGBTQIA+ youth often lack representation in their school's curriculum, policies, and staff, making it difficult for them to see themselves reflected in their educational environment.
- Limited resources: Many schools lack the resources and support necessary to provide LGBTQIA+ youth with the help they need, including counseling, mentorship, and social services.
- Conversion therapy: Some schools and organizations still promote conversion therapy, a discredited and harmful practice that aims to change a person's sexual orientation or gender identity.
Our Vision for Youth and Education
We envision a world where every LGBTQIA+ youth can thrive in a safe, supportive, and inclusive educational environment. To achieve this, we advocate for:
- Inclusive education policies: We support policies that promote inclusivity, diversity, and equity in education, including policies that address bullying, harassment, and lack of representation.
- LGBTQIA+ representation: We push for representation of LGBTQIA+ individuals in school curricula, policies, and staff, ensuring that LGBTQIA+ youth can see themselves reflected in their educational environment.
- Increased resources: We advocate for increased resources and support for LGBTQIA+ youth, including counseling, mentorship, and social services.
- Ban on conversion therapy: We support banning conversion therapy in schools and organizations, ensuring that LGBTQIA+ youth are protected from this discredited and harmful practice.
What We're Fighting For
We're fighting for a world where:
- LGBTQIA+ youth can attend school without fear of bullying or harassment.
- LGBTQIA+ youth can see themselves reflected in their school's curriculum and policies.
- LGBTQIA+ youth have access to the resources and support they need to succeed.
- Conversion therapy is banned in all schools and organizations.
